It’s near Krakow, between Energylandia and Wieliczka salt mines and Krakow–that’s what’s good thing about this Camping Smok. Here is a campground review in pictures. . . on our family road trip number 5.
Five different camping areas. Ours (shown) is near the top level and it’s quite shaded. We have an extra tent for the boys cousinswho joined us for a week.
What we don’t like about it? It’s quite pricey at 275 something-zlotys per night for all four of us with car, tent and electricity. We found apartments cheaper than that in the Krakow area. But of course, the apartment doesn’t have the benefit of being able to see your car that is fully loaded of stuff, you know.
It is a little tricky to get into the campground. It’s off a main road that has a lot of traffic, trucks included, all moving at a high speed and around the bend. There are two entrances, both are rather difficult to turn into.
Plenty of space at the lowest (and widest) level of Camping Smok at the height of summer vacation. It has mostly RVs and campervans.
Small and shaded playground for young children, located at the top level near the reception.
Covered outdoor kitchenette with 2 sets of tables and benches, refrigerator, portable stoves, kettles and electric plugs that made us wonder why we paid for electricity in the first place.
Covered outdoor laundry with racks for manually washing and hanging clothes. When camping in Poland, it helps to have covered facilities because you can almost be sure that it will rain in the summer. There’s a laudry machine in a room across from here.
For the amount of money, we’re paying, YES, I’m glad there’s toilet paper and free hot shower. No problem with hot water or drainage. Sinks for washing dishes or laundry on either side, but there is no hot water.
Modern and clean bathroom. 4 shower and 4 toilet stalls and 5 sinks and a hairdryer–that’s a pleasant surprise!
The reception inside the huge house. If you are coming from the main entrance, you’ll have to drive up the narrow winding road to get here. If you are coming from the back, this is what you’d see. Watch out! Tight turns here!
Outdoor seating right outside the reception that sold beers and coffee and not much else. There was Wi-Fi, relatively relatively fast and FREE.
### That’s it. Thanks for stopping by! ###
Next Stop:
21 days of family camping road trip number 5. This time it’s all in Polska–the beautiful land of Poles.
Here’s the rest of what we plan to see and do in Poland’s south/southeast region on this year’s family camping road trip:
Olsztyn and the trail of the Eagle’s nest,
Black Madonna of Częstochowa,
Krakow and the nearby attractions (Energylandia, Wadowice, Wieliczka Salt Mine),
Pieniny mountain,
drive through Slovakia’s southern Carpathian mountain,
stop by the Saint Magdalene church in Dukla,
do some trekking in the Bieszczady mountains and cross over into cross over to Ukraine (… maybe ; ),
go see about a famous beetle in Szczebrzeszyn,
and a charming art town of Kazimierz Dolny.
Some things to see in the south/southeast of Poland during our family camping road trip. This is from a family-friendly, kid-approved book that we mainly use for planning road trips: MAPS by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski/Big Pictures Press. Go get it! Highly Recommended!(and no, NO, NOOOOoo, we are not getting paid for mentioning this!)
