Visiting Beautiful Poland: Czorsztyn Castle by a Lake in Southern Poland, in Pictures

Found an alternative to mountain hiking in the Pieniny mountains! More castles!! 🏰🙂 There are so many castles in this neighborhood! The 15th-century well-preserved remains of the Czorsztyn castle is a family-friendly, kid-approved thing to see in southern Poland.

Onwards, upwards, the boys marched on. . . It’s about a half a kilometer uphill walk from the parking lot to here. So, take your time!
Atop Czorsztyn castle overlooking the Lake Czorsztyn and Dunajec river. That’s a heck of a view for the nuns who once called this home.
Czorsztyn Castle on the north side of the lake (with a heart next to it) is one of the three castles that surrounds Lake Czorsztyn.
We tried to catch this wheel-ferry boat tour that goes around the lake for a different perspectives on the three castles. But, we missed it. And then, strong winds kicked in and they cancelled the rest of the tours for the day. Bummer!
View of Lake Czorsztyn, with the more developed and therefore more touristy 14th-century Castle Dunajec atop an outcrop on the center-right that guards the entrance to Dunajec river.
500 years and still standing proud–the castle’s inner courtyard.
A room in the Czorsztyn castle showcases traditional river rafter boats of southern Poland that are quite effective in navigating rapids. We’ll trust their words for it!
A window to the Czorsztyn countryside.
Off with their heads! A prison in the castlegrounds.
Of course; souvenirs and toys… in the Czorsztyn castlegrounds!
A much-needed chill time in a harbor (przystan) bar, about 600 meters down the castle. Here’s where you can also get river boat tours of different kinds.
A quiet place to rest. When visiting Czorsztyn castle make sure to explore the surrounding area because it has many different things to discover, just like this one and a 300-meter zipline over the water! Yikes!!!
Czorsztyn castle: kid-approved! (glad the boys were not afraid of heights! : )

Next Stop:

21 days of family camping road trip number 5. This time it’s all in Polska–the beautiful land of Poles.

Here’s the rest of what we plan to see and do in Poland’s south/southeast region on this year’s family camping road trip:

  • Olsztyn and the trail of the Eagle’s nest,
  • Black Madonna of Częstochowa,
  • Krakow and the nearby attractions (Energylandia, Wadowice, Wieliczka Salt Mine),
  • Pieniny mountain,
  • drive through Slovakia’s southern Carpathian mountain,
  • stop by the Saint Magdalene church in Dukla,
  • do some trekking in the Bieszczady mountains and cross over into cross over to Ukraine (… maybe ; ),
  • go see about a famous beetle in Szczebrzeszyn,
  • and a charming art town of Kazimierz Dolny.
Some things to see in the south/southeast of Poland during our family camping road trip. This is from a family-friendly, kid-approved book that we mainly use for planning road trips: MAPS by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski/Big Pictures Press. Go get it! Highly Recommended! (and no, NO, NOOOOoo, we are not getting paid for mentioning this!)
